Homefront: The Nursery of Elisabeth Rose

 Miss 'Liss is 10 months old and I am finally getting around to posting nursery pics! This was a fun and rather simple project, full of collecting and thrifting and creating, and yet I still have more ideas. This isn't really her room. This is her corner, in my room. We are short a bedroom so she stays in our for now. There are plenty of perks in that... for now anyways. Turquoise seems to be a theme with me, even my boy's nursery was turquoise and blue. I guess I either a) really like the color or b) it's always available and since I thrift a lot, I get what I find!

Wooden chandelier is from uncommon. I draped the turquoise beads on for fun. I have finally replaced the changing table knobs with faux mercury glass ones from Hobby Lobby, so just imagine it ;)  Pillows are thrifted vintage, chair was a free roadside find.

I made this rag garland, and it's about 6 feet long. Some of the fabric in there is from pajamas that my big ole pregnant belly ripped open. I kid you not. Sentimental, maybe, or just plain weird? I talk about how I made this here. I love a little touch of metallic and would like to incorporate more in this space, but for now, I hole punched gold circles out of a gift bag and hot glued them onto a white ribbon. Glittered star was a garage sale find. I totally love this project, and it was practically free and a large centerpiece for a wall.

These IKEA curtains were perfect and on sale for $4! I wish there were more. I didn't want to hang curtain rods, so I tied them up with twine. Stuffed bird is thrifted, the lamb rattle plushie and is the first official baby toy gift to Elisabeth.

This IKEA crib we bought from a friend. We sanded it down and spray painted it, because I was just *so* desperate for a white crib. Crib linens and that adorable owl are also all thrifted.

Miss Rose. This was two months ago, and she has grown several inches of fluffy hair and a tooth since!

I pulled out my 80's vintage toys! Of course, they weren't vintage when I had them as a kid! Hugga Bunch, Kermit, Miss Piggy (my sister's actually), yellow Honey Bear, white Popple, Ellaroo from the Wuzzles, Pluto, and some other little sentimental ones. The pink and ivory lambs were mine and my sister newborn gifts. (awe). And the little thumb sucking money I got the day my little brother was "born" into our family! (He was adopted from South Korea, so we had a special ceremony.) The white wicker shelf is a garage sale find.

I see you!  That is the corner of our bed and Elisabeth's favorite spot to play. That is where I sit in front of the mirror to do my make-up, and she loves jumping all over me as I struggle to do my eyeliner. Fun times! Now, I simply give her some baby treats in the crib until my eyes are done.

 They loves each others.

 It's always puppet time. Speaking of our old toys, this was my husband's rat puppet as a kid.

 And here is what we usually look like in this room. Sleepy! But having her so close makes it easy to quickly take care of her at night. So that is it. Eventually, I will get around to showing the room in its entirety, after finishing up a few other projects in here.

Homefront: Halloween Decoratng

Our kid corner is getting a little bit of  a spooky glam makeover this month! I added blackout curtains in a pretty magenta color (clearance for $7 a panel at Wal-Mart)... that perfectly matches my Garden Ridge floral lampshade that graces my Goodwill crystal lamp. A pretty black and white geometric area rug from Garden Ridge grounds the area and provides a soft place for our new little, 5 1/2 month old speed crawler baby. Our dresser that has served as a changing table, kitchen storage, and now a toy storage and staging area, fits this space perfectly. An IKEA poang chair for $20 from a garage sale, and cheap and sparkly goodies make this space ready for Halloween.

  

 We love our fuzzy spider, I think we should name her Harriet.

Our large, ornate frame (from a garage sale we used for our family portraits) is a perfect backdrop for a small little vignette on our Expedit bookshelf.

I am going to be mega busy this weekend, doing tons of face painting and balloons for lots of Halloween parties! Here's a fast little pretty eye design I whipped up last weekend :) I hope to get a chance to breathe and update the blog soon, but if not, I hope you all have a very safe and very happy Halloween!!

Changes

 Elisabeth (and my mom's) first IKEA experience

Considering making some big ch-ch-ch-ch-changes soon....

Like my hair... ombre, blonde, ginger, dark... ? I've got like 3 inches of regrowth, and some frizz of the universe, so now what? The 'do is in sad, sad shape, which leads me to the next thing.

I'm really looking into going back into the salon after several years hiatus. Exciting, nerve racking, and a really neat opportunity at an awesome place just minutes from me.

Some changes regarding my jewelry... finally in the mood to get organized and with that comes a shift of style and pizazz.

Thinking about donating breastmilk... woah what? I am like a cow right now and it could benefit the sick little babies that need some good ole nourishment. But, how would that work if I go back to work?

Hanging curtains in the new house.. really stressful! I got a stencil to see if I can do something note worthy, we shall see. Being on a very, very tight budget is kind of getting old.

Still unpacking, and arranging. Since we share a nursery with dear baby girl, this IKEA idea with the curtain partition was downright awesome. Oh, how to make it work in our space? We have that same crib.

And some other pesky life things that aren't really bloggable, but very much weigh heavily on the mind.

Inspired Interiors: Pink, Gold and Black

Pink, gold and black... I've been seeing this color combo around a lot lately and every time I see it... I WANT IT. There is a slight Hollywood Regency feel here, with a bit of eclectic crazy thrown in for good measure. Now, I have some pretty interesting brass piece that came from thrifting, though those doesn't quite fit the glamour motifs going on in my head. 


Daphne's gorgeous nursery above is featured in depth on Apartment Therapy.  There are so many drool worthy elements here, but I simply adore that rug and lamp! Okay... and the mirror, mirrored dresser, stool.. so everything. A lot of people have been diy'ing mirrored dressers as of late. A pretty good tutorial here:

Fiona's room by My Favorite and My Best, has so much charm, pattern and color! She makes a good point, that a lot of things could afford, she didn't quite like.. so she "just stuck with what i had and added some black and white tile fabric pillows and a deep green mohair velvet pillow." And that is what decorating is for most of us... finding small yet exciting ways to insert a snap of personality into our rooms.

I went to IKEA yesterday (my mom and baby Elisabeth's first time) and my head is just spinning with grand ideas. But IKEA hacks add even more flavor to a room. This Dorothy Draper inspired diy dresser by Nancy of Marcus Design has made the bloggy rounds, but it should! She even offers a tutorial on how she did it here. The otherwise neutral color palate is made very regal in pattern, and I love those pink rose buds, bringing in some femininity.

Coco Cozy's brillant golden wall swag. Reminds me of a flowering pheonix. Love. And the bright orange and pinks paired with a dusty rose? Unexpected, but oh so stylish. But her whole place is stunning.

Wow, look at that bathroom by Jay Jeffers! Coral, mint, aqua, pink and lots of golds. Whimsical, ornate, and interesting choices, but I think they work together. In essence, by adding texture through golds and brasses, and some pink, a fun or elegant mix can be attained by all, even if you simply replace a few dated pieces on a small budget, it can be done.

 

Inspired Rooms: Bachelor Pad Nursery

I simply, madly adore this nursery, aka "Ike's Bachelor Pad" from Design Crisis. I would love to do something like this for my boys room. The drummer art, the stuffed giraffe, the hot air balloon chandelier and Persian rug are what floors me. Okay, so to be honest, so does the rocking chair and the gorgeous gray walls, ( Pratt and Lambert’s Wolf)... I basically love everything.
