Playfully Somber

There is a balance to be had for a somber effect. An endearing touch to make the space inviting,
and it's in those playful touches that can be achieved. The floral canopy isn't particularly somber
with all of the white, but it does have some melancholy feel to it. Perhaps it's just my perception,
with all of the canopies in the victorian gothic novels I have read.

I have an abiding admiration for vintage ephemera and those who procure them so freely for the
internets enjoyment. These images you can print and play with seemed fitting in some way.

Farewell December, Letting Go of Christmas and Decorating Wintery

I'm a little tormented. I was so busy moving and catching up on orders, I didn't post many Christmas ideas this year. Even though Christmas is over, I use this blog as a springboard for myself to reference for later, and I need to file these great ideas somewhere! So, this week will be catch up for me, then I'll get down to new stuff, mmkay? For now though, many of these can still be implemented as "winter" decor.

This little montage of Lindsey Brackeen's holiday mantle, my jaw dropped a little. I love the bright white, a bit of style and sparkle, without being too dark and heavy feeling for the holidays. I love how she hand tied the wreath with torn fabric scraps with her little boy. So sweet. The natural elements are wonderful as well.

Lindsey also made these adorable little gift tags you can use next year. I love here idea to use them as a garland as well. Visit here to download them.

Oh Blue, How My Heart Loves You

Turquoise, aqua, teal, sea blue, aquamarine...all wonderful names for a variety of a wonderful color blue. (If you want to read a bit about where names of color come from, check this out!) In continuation of the pink tour of my recent antique mall visit, the turquoise tour will now commence. Whether you are looking for a shabby beach cottage look, a 1950's party gown, some thing a little funky, creepy, retro or glamorous, something to tell the time, or go back in time, it can all be acquired in the land of this blue.
