Inspired Interiors: Blue Honey

mustard gray and white mantle via annesage

I'm not quite feeling the spring yet. I love the varying shades of blues here, like a range of patina... but the hints of  honey and mustard accents keeps me in my comfort zone. I've been having a lot of decorating ideas lately that combine these colors, even with a bit of navy mixed in. I just got a new set of chairs from a city wide garage sale and am considering finally pulling out that sander I borrowed from my friend to do something colorful. Well see where this adventure takes us.

Painting One Man's Junk

This past month or two, my husband has lifted a filing cabinet, a table and an end table from the side of the road, and I grabbed two chairs sitting in front of a dumpster. I'm totally shocked, we haven't done this in a while, but especially my husband, who actually saw most of the items and stopped and suprised me with them. I think my frugal furniture huntingness has caught hold a little spark in him. So adorable.

And speaking of adorable, the end table he grabbed is actually kind of hideous in a really cute way, just the way I like them. I love this table that Holly, from In the Fun Lane painted and decked out with anthropologie key hole knobs. It has a very Alice in Wonderland vibe going on. Well, the end table we have has the real thing, this adorable little decorative key hole. And I only just noticed the eagle drawer pulls when I uploaded the pictures. I kind of love them. I usually prefer silver or a dark oiled bronze, but the patinaed brass is sort of charming.

I'm considering painting it a similar blue as well, although her table has more of a greenish hue to that blue. I'm thinking, should I do the white on the armoire and the blue on the end table? Or the armoire the blue, Nester style... but then it makes me feel too committed to the color on such a large piece. What do you think? Maybe I'll make a Home Depto run next week.

Naturally Blue

With blue being such a cool color, it always looks so lovely paired with fellow cools in whites and soft greys. I know blue really shines when paired with oranges, reds and yellows, but sometimes, that may feel just too 'loud'. I really love seeing a gentle, subdued warmth infused in these blue accented rooms through soft amber and wood tones along with the crisp beauty of white. Each room has distinct natural and organic accessories, from sisal rugs, antlers, or flowering branches. Touches of the outdoors help to cozy up a space that may feel too stuffy or contrived. When a room just doesn't seen to click, remove one glassy/iron/electronic/fake thing add some type of an organic fiber... and allow the space to breathe.

A Few Pretties: It's all in the details

One thing I've noticed, is that these are some classic pieces, in muted, wearable colors and clean lines.
However, they each have an unexpected touch of feminine detail... a bow, a special angled pleated collar, an interesting placket... all things that can really make something pop, without being overly in your face.

I am a jeans and fitted v-neck tee kind of a girl, so while going through my closet, I realized I had a plethora of 'fancier' blouses and tops that I love that have all of these little special details, but I simply never wear. So, I'm going to challenge myself to actually go out once in a while in a nice, unexpected fashion piece.

I'm rearranging my closet to put these blouses up front and push some tee's back. Think you will try to implement some old/new little details to your wardrobe this fall?
