Personal Style: Strawberry Skirt

Woah, I haven't done one of these outfit posts since my belly shot round-up! So, this is my 4 months after having my baby girl! I like this skirt/belt combo b/c it does a fairly decent job of camouflaging baby gut.

So, the Goodwill back in Watauga/ Fort Worth that I totally miss has this 'retro' section, where they put all the good, collectable stuff. I got this skirt in that section, it's a reversible, wrap skirt and it's awesome. I taught a lesson to the teens at church this Sunday about healthy living, so strawberries seemed like a good choice. One of the girls told me I looked like a strawberry :) And since cold times are approaching, this summery skirt won't be 'in season' for long.

I made this necklace, and have the last one for sale in my shop. A huge, vintage glass jewel on vintage 1960's brass chain. I love it and got tons of compliments on it!

I love this belt, a fun, vintage thrift store find that closes with velcro. Awesome.

Seriously, I am a hairstylist. Why did I allow my hair to get this bad?! Maybe childbirth, a month of pneumonia, severe eye infections, painful foot stuff, school starting, moving and all that had somethin' to do with it. HuhIdontknow. I used a mix of 7/7, 7/03 and 6/0 in ColorTouch and 1.9 developer to make this semi-permanent heathery brunette. I only left it on the ends for a few minutes for a light coverage there, so it left a bit of an ombre effect on the highlights. Just what I was going for, perfect for fall and not too different from my natural color. And yes, I do put it on my eyebrows. Gotta match, you know!

Sweet Treats: The Cake Thief

My hubs turned 32. His work had some big shenanigans, than gave him this monster cake. I, (okay, my mom) baked him a b-day cake (chocolate by request), and me not being a fantastic decorator (which I fully intend to remedy one day, well my Halo one was awesome)... outright STOLE the flowers off of the store cake and put them on the chocolate one. Ah-ha! It was spectacular, trick candles and all. And oh boy, did that bad boy smoke!!

The pilfered flowers had some smudging, so I just did some slight camouflaging with the chocolate icing
and used a toothpick to blend the weird edges, and it turned out alright. Sprinkles helped, naturally. By putting foil around the bottom of your cake, you can freely frost it without getting icing smudges all over the cake stand. Then you just pull the foil bits out and it's nice and clean!

Yes, he got a venus fly trap, homemade cards, balloons and hugs and kisses for his birthday.
I also made his favorite dish, chicken enchiladas... my first time! Recipe coming soon :)

Some people say we look alike. We got confused for a brother and sister the other day  Oo
The trick candles kept relighting, it was a family effort to get them all out. In order to avoid a cake full of spit, we eventually resorted to throwing them in a bowl full of water.

Inspired Interiors: Quiet, Styled Bedrooms

All of these rooms are all very different, yet they all still have a similar theme. Quiet colors, neutral backdrops, symmetry, simple drapery, a touch of patterns and colors that can easily be swept out for the seasons and trend changes. There are touches of upholstered pieces or additional throws and some very diy details, and yet everything is all very nicely styled and pulled together without looking forced. I wonder if I can achieve a similar feel in our room? Nester has some good pointers here.

Inspired Interiors: Albertina's "Fearless" Living Room

LALALALA-Love Albertina's home as featured on Little Green Notebook!! The colors, the elegance! Visit the link for source info.

One thing I am lacking is framed family photos. I saw this photo above and have been collecting metallic frames to create a similar vignette. So, I suppose I need a sofa table too! I want to be able to pick up a frame, trace the smile and hug it when I feel so moved. For me, I'm trying to distance myself from so much art, and get back to the basics of family photos.

I would love to paint a lovely portrait of my children.

Inspired Interiors: Justina's Jungalow

Probably one of my most favorite areas ever from Etsy's Get the Look interview. I have some natural toned wood that I keep thinking I need to paint, but I can appreciate it's natural state in that is DOES look good with mismatched pieces in a setting. So, I love figuring out that I am only semi-delusional in this regard.

Really though, the colors, patterns, ethnic prints. Adore it all. But the key is, mismatch doesn't work if it's only one or two pieces. Than it just looks like you can't match. No, you have to throw it to the wind. Keeping other elements natural and airy with a similar color scheme helps.  Also, I love the layering of rugs.

Check out the homeowner's Justina’s blog for even more incredible decorating ideas and to take the full Jungalow tour.
