Inspired Interiors: Subtle Florals and Natural Pink Undertones

We just got back in town, and my Christmas decorating is still everywhere. I'm longing to put it all away and have a clean slate.  There is something so simple, yet full of character in these following images, I hope to incorporate some sense of crisp color and personality in the home eventually, while maintaining a natural feel. I love the subtle use of florals to work that romantic feel. (If only I could paint those dark beige renter walls.)
Is it just me, or do these images feel a little bit country, a little bit modern?

Also, I came across this post at Censational Girl, that talks about taking better pictures of interiors. I guess I had better learn to work my manual shooting!

Possibly my favorite. the plank floors, the modern bed and subtle colors with a flash of florals.
Such a cozy and airy feeling.

Inspired Rooms: Electric White

Isn't this Marmora Road Victorian home truly lovely? It's been featured pretty much everywhere, from Light locations, but still. Amazing how a home can be graceful, cozy and charming all at the same time.

The white plank floors and pale, dove gray walls with those gorgeous molding makes a simply sweet canvas. I love how there are unexpected pops of bright color in each room.

Scattered art in ornate frames, dark stained wood mixed with painted wood pieces, ornate frames and lighting mixed with clean simple lines, i feel like it's the best of both worlds here.

Inspired Blog: LifefLix

I love the  room redo shown above. So hodge podge, simple, and full of personality.

I discovered a sweet blog awhile back by Marichelle called Lifeflix. She has the most beautiful baby ever (who wore the most adorable owl Halloween costume and who also has the most adorable nursery) and her blog is really a breath of fresh air. I'm loving her Operation Lose Baby Fat series right now. If you love adorable and simple crafts (like the  clouds craftstwig mobile and kid's animal masks), healthy and delicious recipes, and original eye candy, then do visit.

Adorable Faux Cloud Rug and DecalTutorials

I only just discovered lifeflix, and am so happy I did. Go check out her blog, you will be happy you did. She is adorable and so are her projects. This faux cloud decal (with tutorial)  idea is great, and that fauxsheepskin cloud rug... I simply love. Just use no-sew on the cut edges afterward and you are good to go, full tutorial here. I have fur in several colors that I originally bought to make lots of puppets, but I've been lazy, red, turquoise, yellow, navy, pink... I wonder if I have some gray in there?

Inspired Room: Fergus and Me

Fergus and Me has an exceptional eye for design. She also has an etsy shop full of wonderful vintage treasures. Her pre-teen girl's room has recently been showcased on Oh Dee Doh here, where you can read about the design inspiration and see more photos of the room.

The vintage quilt and bed posts (Land of Nod) add so  much warmth to the modern decor, like the swinging chair from Terence Conran's Habitat and wallpaper which is Polar bear oilcloth by John Lewis (UK). The creme paint and turquoise walls (Benjamin Moore Jamaican Aqua) work gorgeously with the dark wood floors.
I have to say, the paper cranes may very well be my favorite piece to this room. And they were made by Caroline herself. Such a creative and spirited young lady.

I love this redwork embroidered pillow on the cozy cream couch.

Even though this is an 11 year old's room, it reminds me of Kelly Rae's colorful home and I believe, can be utilized for even us older people!

Urban Childlike Design

Holly of decor8 interviewed Jan Eleni, a designer and artist on her inspiration, design, education. The entire interview can be read here.  Jan's online portfolio and information is here. Her work is so free and comfortable. A little happy and eclectic mix of old and new, organic beauty and whimsical, childlike touches.  Click on photos to enlarge.
This piece she created by using scans of children's artwork, and I absolutely adore it. She talks about the process below:
Jan: While I was working on children’s spaces – I wanted to time capsule their moment in art – and I started making these beautiful art frames – a way to archive your child’s art in a modern way. It is a labor of love – a time consuming process – the end result is a grid of hand cut miniature images – a gathering of your child’s artwork. It is amazing if you think of how we can influence the next generation of artists and creative types.

Vintage Linen Springtime Nursery

I went on a rampage today at the good ole Goodwill. I came home with scores of vintage linens and pillowcases. It's time to add a burst of spring around here and what a better way, then to add a touch of freshly washed pillowcases and sheets in bright and sentimental feeling designs to crisp white bedding?

The sheets I purchased are currently in the wash and I can't wait to get started on this new little project, and can't wait to show you how it turns out. Easy, simple, fairly cheap and whatever I end up not using, will be going promptly to my etsy shop's vintage section. Oh, I got a lot of goodies to add in there, and desperately need to retake the pics of what I have in stock!

In search of bedroom ideas, I found chik austin's lovely blog. I toured her home sweet home posts, and wow, what fun finds!
I love the "You are My Sunshine" print she has by the amazing, The Wheatfield.

I have three of these fiesta dresses, you can see one here. But altering them pillowcase style for children? Adorable! Her vintage Raggedy Ann, Mickey Mouse and other books and toys from her childhood are a wonderful addition to her children's room.

her boy and girl shared room works wonderfully

gotta love the dress up and frame walls!

From her amazing nursery, to the shared kids room and everything else, this busy (fellow Texan) mom has an eye for design and a creative spirit. She is also involved in a project called Craft Hope, which helps children around the world in need. The blog is here and there is even a book you can preorder here full of tutorials of other crafters and bloggers with links to charities. Here, you can see how one of her projects, was overflowing with handcrafted donations to orphanges in India.

I will have to go and tour the rest of the blog soon.  *ps, spacing and picture placement issues are my arch nemesis today!
