Interior Design Trends For 2011: The Flash Of Luxury Into Your Home

* Guest post courtesy of Design Shuffle *

As we all know, trends are very short-lived. Just like fashion, interior designs are short lived and change every year. A few years back, the color of green was very much common. The color green rose to popularity because it promoted awareness for global warming and being eco-friendly. Hey, we all have to show support to save dear Earth. Each year brings new and flashy trends. Collecting interior design ideas is like putting paint on a canvas. There are no limits to what you can do and how you want to portray your sense of style. The year 2010 has brought out many eye-catching ideas and trends. Individuals and home owners are catching on fast to stay true to their desire for luxury.

Interior designers have moved towards old traditions. They describe this shift in designing as “old is new again”. Vintage and antique pieces of furniture add life to the living space. They make the area come alive with a clever selection of wall paints. If you really want to add a touch of vintage, the best place for you to shop is a thrift store. There, you will get furniture that is worn down through the years, and maybe you can snag a few items. This way your house or any other living area is going to look unique.

Your house is your heaven, and it is even better if you own it. There is no limit to what you can have done and how you can decorate the interior. The year 2011 is about to start off. You need to make sure that you have all the right ideas to help you redesign your house or your living area that is frequently used.

Start off with some colors that the new years will bring. Remodel your bedroom or living room accordingly. If your color of choice will be blue, then there are many shades and tints that you can use. One thing is for sure: when you use bright colors, your room may look a bit smaller. Some say that is cozy and comforting. Others don’t appreciate that fact. Bright colors will add a trendy touch of the year 2011. Bright is in, so color coordinate your walls. Use different shades to make the room look attractive and clean. Have bright lighting to add to the effect.

You have to stay a bit close to the trends of the New Year. Decorators suggest wood floorings and metal storage fixtures. That is quite 70’s, but you know old is gold nowadays. You need to have that extra space effect. Having carpets will make the room or any area appear occupied with everything displayed. Having wooden floorings will ensure that the room is kept spacious and attractive.

Remember the time when wall papers were so common that every single house had paper peeling of the walls. Not a very attractive sight indeed. Paint is in style, having walls painted with synthetic enamel will keep the walls glossy and clean. But here is a tip, don’t overdo it. It looks fresh, but having every room in your house looking glossy will make your house look like a hall of mirrors.

Naturally Blue

With blue being such a cool color, it always looks so lovely paired with fellow cools in whites and soft greys. I know blue really shines when paired with oranges, reds and yellows, but sometimes, that may feel just too 'loud'. I really love seeing a gentle, subdued warmth infused in these blue accented rooms through soft amber and wood tones along with the crisp beauty of white. Each room has distinct natural and organic accessories, from sisal rugs, antlers, or flowering branches. Touches of the outdoors help to cozy up a space that may feel too stuffy or contrived. When a room just doesn't seen to click, remove one glassy/iron/electronic/fake thing add some type of an organic fiber... and allow the space to breathe.

Inspired Rooms~ Kids Playrooms

The project of the week (besides getting our shower ripped out due to rotting walls), is the boys playroom. Our breakfast nook is so huge, we decided that it would be a little preschool/playroom. I'll work reeeally hard on it today and then show you tomorrow what it needs, because I have some ideas that I need help with! Anyways, here are my two project questions below, and some more inspirational kids rooms that I will be using as a spring board, trying to save as much money as possible here.

1. This perfect blue world map tapestry would look perfect in here, but it's a little on the pricey side, so this scenic forest scene is super cute, and less expensive. Which would I use longer in my home? Price or beauty!?

2.  The other thing I am trying to consider, is a foam playmat. Color in tan or charcoal gray ,or mixed colors? Or do I skip that and get a simple area rug? Or go with this awesome natural hardwook floor look foam playmat (though we wouldn't be able to afford the end pieces, so the ends would be the jaggedy puzzle look).

So, that's the end of my questions for now. So far, the colors are on the aqua, deep blue, yellow, and lime.

The Calm After the Storm

aqua blue and white balloon room - yvette inufio

Yesterday was an extremely stressful and trying day (though some yummy Indian food helped take the edge off), and the weekend was as well, since every single one of us got a nasty little 24 hour bug. But I decided to change my mindset and takes some deep breaths, think things through, made a gameplan and decided to remain calm.

We managed to pack up the Christmas decorations (though I never did take pictures of the upgrades I did to the mantle and tree and the garland I made for the window, oh well!)

I am enjoying having space back. It's amazing how wonderful Christmas is, and every year I get so excited decorating and I always think as I am pulling each ornament out of the box, how it is going to be so big in here once they are put back away.  I am never wrong

Right now, I am enjoying being clutter free. Nester has a great post today about having "accessories on parade". I try and live by that (as I imagine my husband who calls me a "hoarder" rolling his eyes at that statement), but it is easy to lose control!

my great grandmother's lamb modeling my necklace... so lovely

But, since I can't find my box of my little knick knacks (of which I believe my husband hid them from me in our move, though he strongly disagrees), staying clutter free is fairly easy right now. I would really like to find my little brass owls and my grandmother's lamb. Everywhere I look is white with little aqua accents, and black pillows and I love the simplicity... but still...

WHERE IS MY BOX!?

*** update... hubs found my box :) thanks, darling!
