Personal Style: Retro Chocolate Polka Dots

This may be weird, not sure, but matching browns is extremeluy important to me. This outfit may seem simple, but it almost gave me a panic attack because I couldn't find brown shoes that matched. Dark chocolate browns, burgandy browns, tans, cognac browns... it's an immediate eyesore for me when accessories don't match.

Fortunately, I had made this necklace a while back that pulls the shoe color in with that one amber colored bead. It's odd how that one necklace saved the outfit.

And oh! My final haircut reveal. I love it because it's cute and I dig shattered layers. I also like how it shows my peekaboo highlights I did several months ago in the interior section of my layers. I hate it b/c it really requires flat ironing, (and she cut the front shorter than the back... loathe that.) I usually only blow dry my hair about 10 times a year, so this is going to drive me insane and I will be doing a lot of deep conditioning now. But, as a hairstylist, I have a few tricks up my sleeve.

I changed up my Aquarius eye make-up, by adding some slightly shimmery chocolate shadow to the crease.

Dress: Forever 21, via goodwill

Inspired Color: Grey and Pink

Not surprisingly, I've been attracted to grey again. But instead of my yellow/gray fascination, it's come to pink and flesh tones pairings. A perfect summery treat for the ladies and gents such as myself, who shy away from loud colors and keep to the shadowy confines of familiar and flattering gray, whilst grabbing pops of pinks. Interestingly enough, florals also start to show up when I gravitate toward this color combination.

the home of Jane Atla. I am just loving this chair. All boringified revamped in doilies, paint and embroidery.

I don't know who makes these epic floral tights, but I am quite desperate for a pair. Any ideas?

Personal Style: Pink Ruffles and Stripes

I wore two dresses and a shrug. That's right. A striped, short maxi dress to add some length to this adorable, pink, fluttery, ruffly, sleeveless sheath dress. The gray, ruched sleeved shrug helps tie in the peek a boo of gray 'hem'.

I kept my make-up very light and natural. I always have a hard time deciding what lip color to wear with pink, so I just did light lipgloss here for a subtle hint of shimmer. A low, side parted ponytail helped keep it casual.

Homefront: Cinco de Mayo Dress Up

Over the weekend, we attended a little birthday party for me and a nephew and a baby shower for my sis. But this post is about the Cinco De Mayo themed party we attended. There was a piñata of course at a few of these and lots and lots of good Mexican food and authentic dulches Mexicanos (candy!) I had my first taste of yummy, perfected, homemade flan (made by her) and other authentic treats.

I wore this, yes I did. I actually own 3 of these Mexican embroidered vintage dresses. This long cream one, a short hot pink one and a short white one with pale pink embroidery (it's very pretty).

I love them all, but have never worn them. I wore this long one with a vintage red belt, vintage red cowboy boots I got at an auction and these amazingly (huge, pointy, uncomfortable) red enameled flower clip on earrings. My ears hurt just thinking about them, but oh the cuteness.

Many people remarked how 'festive' I looked as I was pretty much the most colorful thing there (aside from the piñata), though I wonder if that mostly meant 'ridiculous'? Oh well. It's not everyday we get to dress up as a Spanish Rose (even if we DO look a little ridiculous). At least I didn't go all dio de los muertos with a  sugar skull, now eh?

For those of you wondering, Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a holiday celebrated in the United States and primarily limited to the state of Puebla in Mexico. The holiday commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. (thanks, wikipedia) as my knowledge of Mexico is little more than a brief visit to Tijuana). Cinco de Mayo is also my little brother's birthday... Happy Birthday Jae!!

Beauty is Because

Because over 300 of my brand new revamp photos of my shop were deleted before I had a chance to use them, because I wish I had spent more time behind the camera on photo shoots, because I wish I knew how to sew gorgeous clothing, because I wish I spent more time on stage when I had the chance... and because I love fashion, historic costuming, gowns, dancing, drama, theatre, tulle, silk, feathers, men in knickers, passionately angry females, art, photography, young romance, beautifully staged upset, powdered wigs, choreography and muted yet lively and lush colors in whites, creams and golds... this photoshoot just had to be posted today. Yet~ does there really need to be a reason?

Wishlist Clothing

This is a little archive of *some* of the fabulous clothing designers of Etsy. I have so many personalities (figuratively, of course)... and so I have a wide variety of likes... more will be coming soon! I think watching the complete Jane Austen on Masterpiece Theatre inspired some of these favorites.
