Inspired Rooms: Jimmy Schönning

Swedish designer, Jimmy Schönning has truly captured my heart in his interior visions. He has styled spaces for publications such as vtwonen, elle decor, hus&hem and sköna hem.. I've had these images on file for a while now, but I suppose my little trip to ikea last night have brought them back to memory. So glad for that.

There is an abundance of my favorite things, clean lines, color, white, planks and industrial elements used in a comfortable atmosphere.

I would be a very happy lady indeed to occupy this romantically forlorn room.

Inspired Home: Gardener and Marks White Natural History Cottage

White, shabby, natural, light filled, old, rusty, sparkly, vintage, ethereal, industrial... some of the words that come to mind when I see these lovely images from Gardener & Marks, an Australian design firm, that also specializes in renting out props for a myriad of uses. This home was once a 1900's mattress factory.

Seriously, between the plank floors, exposed beam ceilings, natural history vibe, powder coats of white paint on the beadboard and brick for this industrial cottage feel, when can I move in?

Inspired Rooms: Rachel Whiting

"Rachel Whiting is a London based freelance photographer who loves modern interior design and clean lines.Like an interior photography must be sensitive to all the elements that will appear in the final print. All the objects from a room look good, but in a print, these objects may cluster the image."-homedit

Whilst not all her interiors are so bright and colorful, they are similar in that  "her photographic work is constructed with an inherent aesthetic of simplicity, shape, color and form evident throughout all of
her images.  "

The rooms she shoots have a certain ethereal function from them. From the airy white draped windows and the bright light cascading onto the white plank floors, the full length canvases of pink leaned against unfussy walls, the classically simple, yet questionably uncluttered rooms are so quiet and yet so full of an almost bohemian character. I do believe I could get used to living in a room with such qualities.

Inspired Home: Eclectic Ingenuity

I'm kind of loving lonny mags' april/may eclectic ingenuity feature. It starts on page 69, and there are some amazing loft shots as well. I look at this 1960's home, styled by Colleen Locke, and I see an outfit.

Black and white striped shirt, olive long maxi skirt with some cognac sandals and belt, maybe with a big white hobo bag. And a long, draped, sterling antler necklace with a peach rose. Anyone else seeing this? Has anyone ever read the haunting short story, The Yellow Wallpaper? Yeah, that could be me swimming in those stripes.

Inspired Room: Mourning for Japan

sibella court's bathroom

Today is a somewhat somber, moody day. With all the tragic happenings in Japan, we happened to Netflix the film, Grave of the Dragonflies before the earthquake and it could not have come at a more perfect time. Really, it's so close to the current status of Japan, what are the odds we would Netflix this film right before the tragedy occurred?  It  is truly a beautiful and tragic story of the a brother and sister fighting for survival after the 1945 fire bombing in Kobe Japan's WWII, based upon a semi-autobiographical novel by Akiyuki Nosaka .  Truly, the thing that brings peace is knowing that Christ has a plan for us, and that families can be together forever. Being that it has been thundering and stormy all day, and the tidings of the week, I'm feeling that very black and natural interiors are fitting.  Interesting she has a few Japanese themed items in her home as well.

Stylist Sibella Court, has a beautiful home, a curious shop called The Society, inc... Her lovely book, Etcetera: Creating Beautiful Interiors with the Things You Love, chronicals her many designs and ephemera finds, with photos taken by her brother, photographer Chris Court.

the random trail of glowing bulbs is mesmerizing

Inspired Room: My House of Giggle's Dreamy Striped Bedroom

Tracey of My House of Giggles featured her lovely gray and white striped bedroom so I am finally getting around to showing you some of it. Be sure to visit her best of 2010 projects, they are all so beautiful and full of inspiration. I love her use of gray, blues and white, and the careful additions of stripes. I tried my own striped little cake pedestal stand, and though I love it, I simply could not get the lines to be as straight as I would have liked.

Her chandelier work is enchanting, and so inspiring. See how she did another one here.

I would never have thought of using two, thin, ornate contrasting colored mirrors like this. Love it.

As a jewelry designer, I am in desperate need of cute and creative ways to store jewelry, I adore these.

I did ballet as a toddler, does that count if I want to add some ballet slippers in my room?!

Aren't her flower paintings lovely? She also has an etsy shop, which is currently closed,
but hopefully she will add more items soon!
